The Australian Labradoodle is a purpose-bred companion dog developed in Australia from Labradoodles and several other breeds to create a consistent, family-friendly dog with a low- to moderate-shedding coat. Known for their sociable nature, intelligence, and versatility, they are popular as family pets and therapy dogs. They are not the same as a first-generation Labrador Retriever–Poodle mix and are not currently recognized as a distinct breed by major kennel clubs.
The Australian Labradoodle’s development involved multiple breeds beyond the Labrador Retriever and Poodle, including spaniels, to refine temperament and coat.
They are commonly used as therapy and assistance dogs due to their gentle nature, trainability, and sociable temperament.
